The Ford GT40 was born of two interrelated events - Ford's desire in the early sixties to win Le Mans and their failed bid to acquire Ferrari. Spurned by Enzo, Ford signed on Designer Eric Broadley (ex-Lola) and Production specialist John Wyer (ex-Aston Martin). A British based team was built around these two legendary men and on April 1st 1964 the Ford GT was presented at a press launch. In 1964 and '65 competition, the car lived up to the joke of its birth date but from 1966 the GT40 blazed its way into racing folklore. Unparalleled in racing history, the GT40 won Le Mans four years in a row from 1966 to 1969. Go to shemes
